Gina was born in Chicago and holds an MFA in Photo, Video and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts. Her award-winning work, The Sandhog Project, was exhibited as a large-scale photo and video installation at New York's Grand Central Terminal. Her first book on the work, SANDHOGS, was published by powerHouse Books.

LeVay's work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in the US and Europe, including Museum of Contemporary Photography, Museo d'art Contemporanea Roma (MACRO), 
American Museum of Natural History, Hous Projects NYC, Center of Fine Art Photography, Fovea Gallery, Visual Arts Gallery, Noordelicht Festival (Netherlands) and Photo Espana (Madrid). Recently her work was selected for the book, New York in Color (Abrams), which presents the best color photography of New York over the last century.

Gina has been a grant recipient of The Andrew Rhodes Fund for Young Artists at The Visual Arts Foundation, as well as one of PDN's 30 image-makers of the future. Gina is an alumnus and current staff member of The Eddie Adams Workshop, as well as an adjunct professor of photography at The Fashion Institute of Technology.  She currently lives in New York with her husband and two children.
